No doubt you are all assuming that the Gracie we are campaigning for is our very own Gracie the Guinea Pig. However, that's not the case!
Gracie is a German Shorthair Pointer doggy living in California. She is the current Pet Mayor of Montclair Village and is running for re-election. The Pet Mayor, according to the Pet and Wildlife Fund web site, "serves as an ambassador of goodwill to all creatures in the community: two-legged, four-legged, furred, feathered and scaled." Of course there are prizes and media attention for the Pet Mayor, but the election itself is for a worthy cause.
Voting is by donation, and each dollar buys one vote for the candidate. The proceeds go towards animal causes. Gracie's sponsor is the Montclair Veterinary Hospital, who works in cooperation with the village to sponsor the contest. Gracie's campaign message is that she is "always well-dressed and knows the best eateries in town." Food? That's reason alone to vote for Gracie!
